Nationally recognized care + an unmatched legacy = neuroscience care you can believe in

For more than three decades, the care team at Sierra Medical Center has employed a pioneer-like vision that doesn’t wait for change to better lives – we invent it. We stretch for the unattainable, imagine possibilities, then seize opportunities that better patients’ lives.

That’s why patients with brain and spine needs experience life-changing transformations that can only occur when nationally recognized care and an unmatched neuroscience legacy come together. For the Regional Neuroscience care team at Sierra Medical Center, providing the best quality care imaginable is not a destination it’s a day-by-day, minute-by-minute journey.

Whether you’re looking for solutions to a long-term health issue or seeking a quick intervention to prevent future progression, we believe patient-centered care is paramount to creating the quality life you deserve.

Neurohospitalist enhances care

Kevin Cowen MDSierra Medical Center (SMC) has strengthened our reputation as the region’s most advanced neuroscience treatment center by adding Kevin Cowens, MD, to the staff as a neurohospitalist. Providing this specialized care is unique to El Paso as well as a multi-state area including New Mexico, west Texas and Oklahoma. Dr. Cowens will serve as the admitting physician for acute strokes, TIA and neuromedicine patients, providing greater efficiency for patients who need immediate care. He will activate the resources of our Stroke Response Team, initiate and coordinate rapid and collaborative treatment and medically manage our acute neurovascular patients. Dr. Cowens is returning to Texas after serving in private practice in Virginia, Minn. since 2006. Prior to that, he was in practice in Dallas where he received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Cowens completed his internal medicine internship and neurology residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, La.
